Today we are talking about being distracted by opportunity. With everything happening in our world right now, and the changes the pandemic brought in the last two years it is very easy to lose focus and get distracted by opportunities, and new trends.
Let’s say you have already designed your business plan for the next semester and you’re about to start your first project when suddenly something happens. You learn about this new, very trending idea that seems perfect. A wonderful opportunity to branch out and you feel like jumping right into it. Sounds familiar?
Well, this happens frequently during any entrepreneur’s journey so don’t worry because you are not alone.
What are the signs?
Once you are officially distracted by this amazing opportunity, you find yourself doubting your plan. The one you spend months preparing and perfecting. The one you and your team worked hard to finalize and were ready to execute. Now, it seems you cannot make up your mind. You don’t know which way to go.
Maybe you start asking around for advice, from family and friends, which is only more confusing. You do not trust yourself anymore, your instincts. This new idea seems fantastic, maybe even easy to accomplish so why not pursue it, right?
Well, by the time you realize what’s happening you have not only lost valuable time, but also confidence in yourself and your path. Distractions can often disguise themselves as possible opportunities, so it is important to remember that yes you can do a lot, but you don’t have to. You do not need to pursue every possible opportunity.
I encourage you to stay focused on your plan. You have worked hard on it. You know your path and what’s important for your business and your journey so keep on it.
How can you stay focused?
We’ve all been there. Despite your best efforts, things happen, and you can get sidetracked. Sometimes things may not be progressing according to plan. I promise you this is not the end of the world. You just need to stay motivated and focused on the task in front of you.
- Identify distractions and eliminate them. If it doesn’t fit your plan, discard it.
- Avoid multitasking as much as possible. Put your effort into what’s important now.
- Practice mindfulness and meditation. Keep your mind clear of distractions.
There is so much happening out there that can easily distract us from our goals, especially if it feels like it could be opportunistic. It is imperative that you have a clear understanding of what motivates you, and what your goals are to always stay true to your path and your roots.
So, this is your friendly reminder to not be distracted by opportunity and stay on the course, keep the pace, while thinking as big as you can about what’s important now. If this new idea still seems like it could be something you may like to try out, write it down to research for the future. Why not? Now may not be the time, but if it is as amazing as it seems then it may be worth pursuing it later on.
