Are you feeling overwhelmed? Do you feel there is so much to be done that you can’t keep up?
If feeling like this is something you deal with often, don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. Keep reading for an express tip on how to deal with being overwhelmed or what to do when having too much to handle. Of course, we all have our limits over what we can and can’t manage with our time and energy, and we can all feel overwhelmed at times, especially with seasonal changes.
We all process things at a different speed and we can come up with different tactics and strategies to deal with it. What happens when you’re overwhelmed is you’re swirling in your own thoughts, this means your brain is constantly buzzing, making it difficult to pay attention, focus, organization, time management, and relationships.
So how do you overcome it? The best advice I can give you is to take out a piece of paper, a journal or planner and a pen (or pencil if you prefer), and brain dump every task down onto the paper. Don’t hold back and don’t be vague or general, write everything that’s in your head, whether it’s getting a new dog bed for your dog, running to the grocery store to grab tonight’s dinner, or reaching out to this big client that you’ve been wanting to really land. Any task that comes to your mind, write it down.
Then, select and highlight the top priorities, and only pick three or a maximum of five items to go through. Those are your essential items, the ones you’re supposed to tackle first. You might find that adding different colors for different types of tasks might help with the doing of the tasks. Whichever way you prefer, make sure your list ends up in a way that makes your brain happy.
Start tackling those things, once you take action you will feel better, and the overwhelm will start to go away. Make sure that, among all of the listing and tackling, you block out some time for yourself. And please entrepreneur, always be kind to yourself. Once you finish with the essential items, repeat the process with the rest of the list.
I’m an entrepreneur, just like you, I own and operate multiple companies, and I coach, tons of entrepreneurs just like you and I see the patterns. I see the common mindset challenges that we all face and overwhelm is really at the top of that list. While there is no way to determine what life has in store at any given moment, there are ways to build up our mental strength to take on any challenge.
