As an entrepreneur and business owner, you had probably felt a little discouraged in your journey at some point. Oftentimes we might find ourselves having more unproductive weeks than we like, or sometimes we feel exhausted or in a rut. Here is my advice: give yourself some grace! It happens to everyone and it’s not the end of the world.
Today, I’ll like to share a quick approach to recover from those moments when you feel like you’re on a downhill spiral.
1. Think positive
I promise you, life is not over. Your business is not going down just because you had a bad week. Since our brains can easily get fixated on the negative things that happen to us, we need to practice positive thinking. Make a list of the things that went well that week and the things that did get done, even if there were just a couple. Refocus your brain with positive thinking.
2. Identify the quick wins and yeses
Once you feel the energy and the hit of dopamine behind those positive thoughts, check your to-do list and identify which are the quick wins. What emails can I quickly respond to? Maybe there is a meeting request I can schedule right away, or perhaps I can delegate some tasks within my team. Marking those items off your list will give you the energy boost to move forward and take steps in the right direction.
3. Move forward
One bad day or week does not define you. Turn over the page and keep going. Moving forward rather than catching up is the key. Now that you have a clear understanding of what needs to be done, pick what’s important now because there is a chance that the most impactful tasks today were not even on your to-do list last week.
Sometimes it’s just that snap of the finger that gets you in the right direction. Move past the negativity of an unproductive week into the possibilities of today. When you’re having those moments of doubt and discouragement, I want you to look for the quick wins and yeses and go after them. Complete them and gain your momentum back.
