This question might sound a bit silly to you, but is your business working like a Corvette or the Fred Flintstone’s car? The visual of Fred Flintstone came to me during a coaching session. I could see the car perfectly with their feet running on the gravel below them and I picture the wheels, although they aren’t real circles, they aren’t real wheels and they wobble.
So recently, during this coaching session, we started talking about cars and I asked her the question above. Entrepreneurship is not easy and sometimes you find yourself feeling like you are cruising along, making huge strides, and everything is running smoothly. And other times the roads might seem a bit bumpy and your feet get a little tired.
In fact, you could be driving a very nice Corvette and find yourself hitting a lot of bumps in the road. Sounds familiar? If it does, then you are driving without the right tools and resources. The ones you need to get where you aim to go, smoothly.
I want you to gauge how your business is cruising now. Are you cruising in the Corvette or in the Fred Flintstones’ car? Take a moment to review how far along you have come, and how long it took you to get there. Was the ride smooth? Or maybe bumpy? If you find it has been a little bumpy, maybe it’s time you take a deep breath. Think about what you could possibly do to make it easier on you, and on your team.
We have previously talked about having the right systems and processes to have in place and how to get the perfect hire. All these elements, when working properly, will make things easier on you and your team. But if not, they become bumps in the road. Projects take double the time and effort and the aftermath can even make you lose clients.
I encourage you to take a closer look and analyze what you might be missing. Take a step back and think about what you can do to make it better, and easier. Can you get better wheels? Maybe get a better engine? In the pursuit of continuous improvement, those small actions will turn your company into that smooth-running vehicle like the Corvette.
Don’t be afraid to reach out for help. I am taking 1:1 coaching sessions at the moment and I assure you this is a safe space for you to unload. I have a judgment-free zone here for you to process this or any other topic you wish to share with me.
