When summer comes, changes come. The pace of your business, the pace of everyone’s schedules, the pace of our kids’ sports and school and especially the weather. It’s better to be prepared and enjoy it to the max and squeeze every special moment with family and friends without affecting your business. That’s why I want to give you two tips so you can have a productive and enjoyable summer. Yes, you can do both!
It’s very hectic out there, a lot is going on, so here’s two things you need to do to set yourself up for success this summer (or any summer!).
1. CHECK YOUR SCHEDULE AND BLOCK YOUR WORK TIME
Take a look at your schedule and realistically block time on your calendar of when you want to work, when you can work and when you need to work. Make sure that you categorize some work time and some play time as best as possible.
When you’re an entrepreneur, it’s hard to step back when your business is demanding 24/7 attention but you can do some tactical things with your time. For example, you can do no meetings on Monday morning or all day, Zoom calls only on Wednesdays, in person meetings only on Wednesdays or regrouping office time every Friday.
Block out the time you want to work during the week and what type of work you want to be doing. This is crucial to have it clearly scheduled for an enjoyable and productive summer. I see you, I get you…set yourself up for success this summer! Make sure to communicate it in advance with everyone on your team.
This is my goal this summer and I’m thinking mine could be to leave early on Fridays or turn everything off on Fridays at 2:30pm. I want to have some downtime and be able to do something I enjoy, like going to the pool with my kids or going out with the boat or to the beach.
Now is the time to be real with your schedule, block off times that are manageable and commit to being productive and also have time to enjoy yourself.
2. SET YOUR CREATIVE THINKING TIME
Even if you’re not a writer, I encourage you to get a fresh new journal, a good notes app or the notes section on your phone. Wherever you prefer, take some time away from your office and start to write things down, get your creative juices flowing and write, let it all out.
Typically we all do travel in some way, shape or form during the summer, so take some advantage when you’re away from your office, on the road traveling, on the beach or even just getting some fresh air at a different location. That’s when the creative juices really start to flow. That’s when it’s time to think BIG…as big as possible. Start thinking seriously about what you want in your life and what you want to implement in your business in 2022. Give yourself time and compartmentalize.
Make sure to take your journal wherever you go and brain dump everything that comes to your mind, no matter how crazy. Bring it back to your office for you to remember and show your team.
I want you to have the best summer ever. Regardless of what’s happening.
So let’s recap, take some time NOW, in advance to look at your calendar and set some realistic blocks of time. When do you want to work, how and when you want some family and friends quality time. And then, get yourself that creative time, give yourself that powerful outlet to vent and set the intentions of what you want in your life and business to get to a whole new and different level for 2022.
Make your summer very fun and productive with these two simple tips. Plan ahead and always remember to take some time for you, without outside distractions. What an effective way to recharge and come back better, happier and more productive.
